My passion for cyber security wasn't born overnight. It was a spark of curiosity ignited during my first year of Bachelors in Engineering at Chandigarh University in Punjab. I initially specialised in Computer Science.
One day, a cyber security session in Chandigarh piqued my interest, and that session became a turning point, inspiring me to join the exciting world of cyber security. I started exploring the field during my free time. I remember tinkering with online games in order to study the mechanics. These early explorations fuelled my fascination with understanding how things worked behind the scenes.
From that point on, there was no looking back. After college, I took on a position as a Cloud Security Engineer, where my role involved delivering Azure and Microsoft services and securing the IT infrastructure of the organisation and their clients.
During my third year of college, I developed an interest in “Darknet Diaries”, a cyber security podcast which detailed real-life events in the fintech industry where banks and other financial institutions suffered data breaches affecting millions of people. These stories helped me to understand the importance of cyber security in the fintech sector and inspired me to pursue a career in defending it.
It became my ambition to work in a fintech or banking organisation after graduation. When I was offered an interview with Lloyds Technology Centre, it felt like a dream come true.
The induction experience was excellent. I was pleasantly surprised by the diverse group of colleagues attending. I made friends from other states, and they’ve become close companions ever since. My team even won a prize for designing the best poster based on our values.
The induction sessions were not just theoretical; they were interactive and fun. We were divided into teams and assigned projects that allowed us to practically apply the company’s values.
The induction included an insightful session with our leaders, including our CEO and our HR head. They provided support, guidance and clarity on how we could contribute to the organisation and its purpose. It was a great opportunity to interact with our leaders and explore our shared vision and mission. Overall, the induction was a memorable and enjoyable experience, and an exciting beginning.
Our rewards package enables me to maintain a healthy work-life balance and engage in activities that keep me mentally and physically active, such as going to the gym with my friends. I am also particularly grateful for the life insurance coverage extended to my parents and family.
I've had the chance to benefit from the learning and development opportunities here. There is a wealth of resources available, including platforms like Prospero, Pluralsight, and Lloyds Technology Centre's own learning platform. I was pleasantly surprised by the sheer variety of courses and materials. Even though my background is in cyber security, I’m currently engaging in a cloud technology course on Pluralsight.
The learning and development opportunities offer something for everyone, no matter what skills or knowledge you are looking to build. It's exciting to know that Lloyds Technology Centre is actively investing in my growth and development. It's been a great journey so far, and I'm looking forward to all the learning opportunities ahead.
Looking ahead, I'm really excited about the diverse and multicultural environment here. It's a golden opportunity to collaborate with people from different backgrounds and countries. I’m really looking forward to building connections and friendships.
I'm eager to see myself grow within the company, aiming for a position where I can contribute even more, especially within the security team. Being able to contribute to the organisation's security efforts is something that truly excites me.
